Renato Lima de Oliveira, PhD '17

Renato Lima de Oliveira is an Associate Professor of Business and Society at Asia School of Business (ASB), where he also serves as Deputy Dean (Student Journey).

His research focuses on the political economy of state–business relations, with particular emphasis on energy transition, climate politics, carbon markets, and industrial policy. His work has been published in leading journals including Renewable and Sustainable Energy ReviewsRegulation & GovernanceBusiness & PoliticsTechnological Forecasting and Social Change, and Comparative Political Studies, as well as edited volumes from Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press. At ASB, he teaches courses on international business, energy markets, and advises Action Learning projects.

Lima de Oliveira received a PhD in Political Science from MIT, MA in Latin American Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and a B.A. in Communication from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), Brazil. He is also a research affiliate at MIT Sloan and a fellow of the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS-Malaysia) and has consulted for organizations such as Mexico’s Ministry of Energy and the World Bank.
